Trevor gave a talk in Sacrament meeting

Trevor gave his first talk in church Sunday. He did a great job and was very at ease while speaking. He gave his testimony at the end. He expressed how he knows the church is true. He shared his love for the Savior and for his Family. He said, "I know that Joseph Smith was a true Prophet who translated the Book of Mormon." My heart was full and I couldn't help but think of the seven short years until he will be a servant of our heavenly Father. We are proud of how he is firm about what he believes in. It is my prayer that he will always stay firm and strong in his beliefs. This is a copy of his talk, I wanted to post it so I would have it recorded.

I have been asked to speak on love.
When Jesus was on the earth, a lawyer asked him what the greatest commandment was. Jesus said the first is to love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. The second is to love your neighbor as yourself.

To love the Lord with all your heart and mind means to put him first in your life. Nephi, a prophet in the Book of Mormon, was a great example of showing love for the Lord. He never complained when asked to leave his home and possessions. He lived in the wilderness for eight years. He endured persecution from his brothers Laman and Lemuel, but he remained true to the Lord. Nephi said, I will go and do the things which the Lord has commanded, for I know that he giveth no commandments unto the children of men save he shall prepare a way that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

To love our neighbors as ourselves means to be kind to them and to help them. For example, we can make dinner for them after their mother has a baby. We can mow the lawn for them when they are out of town.

In the October 2008 general conference, Elder Holland told a great story about love. He told the story of an Idaho boy who was supposed to round up the cows each night at milking time. The field that the cows were in was by the Teton river, which was sometimes dangerous. His father told him never to cross the river to get any cows. One Saturday, this boy was told that the family would go to the movies if all of the chores were done on time. When the boy arrived at the pasture, he noticed that one of the cows had crossed the river. The boy didn’t want to miss a night at the movies, so he decided to disobey his father and cross the river anyway. The river was so high, that the boy could barely make it across the river. It was starting to get dark, and the boy was wet, cold, and scared. The boy decided to pray for help and asked his Heavenly Father to forgive him for disobeying his father. After he finished his prayer, the boy looked up and saw a man coming towards him dressed in white. At first, he thought it was an angel. But, as the man got closer and started speaking, he realized it was his father. The boy hugged his father and thanked him. The boy’s father showed great love to him even though he had disobeyed him. This is how our Heavenly Father loves us. When we make mistakes, he hears our prayers and is always willing to help us.

We should also love one another with this same kind of love.

In John chapter 13 versus 34 and 35, Jesus said,
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye alove one another; as I have loved you, that ye also blove one another.

By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have alove one to another.

Congrats to Trev. That is so awesome. I can't believe he is a deacon. We all know it's the first of many great ones to come.
